*********** New Covid Protection Rules for Summer 2020 **********
Please contact us first to discuss dates to avoid your booking being cancelled.
We are hoping to be open again from 9th July 2020 and are now taking bookings.
We are blocking out 3 days between guests to ensure a full deep clean can take place.
We will be removing non essential items and having minimal soft furnishings for your safety.
There will be new rules around use of the pool and sauna, these are still to be confirmed by Carnethic but will most likely be set time slots so only one household uses the facilities at a time. We are also discouraging the use of the communal changing room and shower/bathroom.
On departure we are asking guests to please strip the bed and place all linens, bath towels, and tea towels in a pillowcase to allow safe removal by the housekeeper. Please remove all rubbish from the apartment and place in the outside bins. Please wash all used kitchen items and ensure dishwasher is empty.
Poolside is a pretty apartment set in large, award-winning gardens, with full use of Carnethic House's facilities including indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool, sauna and changing room with shower. Sunloungers and a number of outside seating and dining areas are also available. All amenities are within very easy access.
We are hoping to be open again from July 2020. Please be aware there may be government restrictions and guidelines over pool and sauna use.
The apartment has a living-dining room that opens out onto a south-facing private patio with outside dining furniture and a sun umbrella.
Poolside also benefits from off-road allocated parking and is a 15-minute walk into the centre of the beautiful historic port of Fowey where you will find an array of shops, bars and restaurants along with stunning scenery. The local town bus provides an easy return journey.
The closest beach to the apartment is Readymoney Cove, a 15-minute stroll from the end of the gardens, via a picturesque wooded footpath. Other footpaths, beaches, the South West Coastal path and the All Saints Way can also be accessed through the gardens. Some local beaches have dog restrictions during the summer months, but the wide sands of Par beach, a short drive away, are available all year round. The world renowned Eden project is a 20-minute drive away. Other tourist sites in Cornwall are easily accessible.
The apartment is quiet and well away from any road noise with parking right outside the accommodation. It provides a perfect, cosy hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the town centre with narrow streets and limited parking. It is ideal for couples wishing to walk, enjoy the sea and it's environment, explore local tourist attractions and visit the town for shopping and eating experiences. The town has a number of independent fashion and gift shops, traditional butchers and bakers, bookshops, a grocery store, branches of chains such as Seasalt, White Stuff, Moshulu, Crew Clothing and Joules and provides a wide shopping experience. The renowned Jo Downs gallery has glass from her Launceston studio. There are a few pieces in the apartment too! Many shops accept dogs on leads, so they needn't curtail your shopping!
Larger shops and facilities, a Foodhall and Garden Centre for example, are available at Par, and major supermarkets are available in St Austell.
Poolside has lovely gardens, a fantastic pool complex, heated throughout the year, and is walking distance to the beach and the town centre. There's a very convenient town bus and easy on-site parking. The apartment itself is smart, and perfect for two people.
Fowey is a fabulous destination for walkers, foodies, shoppers and anyone interested in water activities and is ideal for visiting other key venues in Cornwall, for example, the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Charlestown. Fowey offers a range of activities and events throughout the year not just during the summer season.
During the year, there are various events such as the week-long Fowey festival, which followed from the Daphne du Maurier festival. For sailing enthusiasts, the town regatta is held during August.

Our Handy Guide To Fowey!
FOOD & DRINK
You certainly won’t go hungry while you’re on holiday in Fowey – these are our favourite places to eat out!
- Evening Meals: The Quay House Hotel, Fowey Harbour Hotel and King of Prussia
- Relaxed and Family Friendly Dining: Sams, The Galleon and Havaeners
- Cafés, Lunch and Light Bites: Brown Sugar, Pinky Murphy, The Lifebuoy Café and The Cornish Bakery
- Tea Rooms: The Dwelling House and The Well House
- International: Pintxo, Sunny Spice and Bufala
-Take Home Treats: Haveners Fish & Chips, Kittows Deli and Game of Cones
There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey such as Seasalt, Joules, Fat Face, and Mountain Warehouse. But the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
THINGS TO SEE & DO
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon! If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey too.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, and a local museum – both are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
There is a secret sea-pool hidden away at Whitehouse Pier which is perfect for a refreshing paddle while looking out over the estuary. It can only be found at certain times, so check those tide times!
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic views, coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden have zip wires and giant air swings, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard is perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is open in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is very famous for its tin mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
Thinking of bringing your 4-legged friend to Fowey? They will love it! Par Sands Beach and Polridmouth Cove are only a few minutes away and are dog-friendly all year round; Readymoney Cove in town allows them to play from October to Easter. Many of the pubs are pup-friendly, and Lazy Jacks even sell doggy ice cream! Sams on the Beach at Polkerris have a Waggy Wednesday during the winter, when you can take your dog for dinner followed by a walk on the beach – special pet friendly treats are on offer too.
Don’t forget to follow Fowey Homes Holidays on social media for inspiration on days out. When booking your trip with us, please feel free to ask for some personal recommendations - we’d love to help you discover the real hidden gems of Cornwall and get the most of out of your time in beautiful Fowey.

“Poolside was a great little 1 bedroom flat for us to be based at. Clean, spacious and everything needed for a comfortable stay. The check-in instructions were clear and we had access to the flat in no time at all. The dedicated parking space right outside the flat was much appreciated and the swimming pool was great!”

“We have just come back from a very relaxing week at Fowey. We stopped in the poolside apartment and it was perfect. Facilities were good inside the apartment, and the pool and sauna were literally next door ( 5 metres away!). It was about 15 minute walk into the town to the bars and shops and beach. We used the stay to 'recharge our batteries' after Christmas and this place was perfect. Very quiet and relaxing!”

“Great little place to stay. Everything we could need was in the apartment. The garden was great as we took our young dog and she had a great time running around. The location was great as the little town was just a short walk away and other sights such as the gardens of heligan were only a short drive. Would definitely stay again!”

"A small garden house in the middle of a large park. The pool is just around the corner. It is well decorated, the welcome sparkling wine is outstanding. Fowey can be reached on foot, leave your car at its best. Abi's explanations were very good. There are many gardens in the area and the coastal path is very nice. "

It is conveniently located for local activities and has good parking. We were surprised with a bottle of prosecco upon on arrival which was a lovely touch. Fowey is a very nice place to stay too. "Had a great few days at Poolside, lovely location with extensive gardens plus a large private patio. Very peaceful. Fantastic pool right next door that we had to ourselves. "Picture postcard. Had a lovely week in Fowey. Apartment was clean and modern. Indoor pool a real bonus - quite a few using it but if you pick your time you can have it to yourself. Gardens are lovely and Fowey is a beautiful place; also a good base to visit other attractions. It is a pleasant walk into town but would advise getting the bus back! Would have liked another 2 seater setter in the apartment- my wife and I like one each!"

A lovely, well appointed cosy apartment. Patio and furniture, French doors open onto patio from lounge/dining area. Very well kept gardens, indoor/outdoor pool right next door. We stayed a week in June and it was lovely weather, warm enough to have breakfast and dinner outside - and nice and quiet. The kitchen area had everything we (read I) needed to cook, and I even managed the combi microwave. We had a minor hot water problem but this was soon resolved by Fowey Homes. The welcoming bubbles was lovely. We hope to return.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Abi's place. The apartment is ideal for a couple overlooking lovely gardens. The apartment was full of the afternoon sunshine when we arrived. The pool and sauna next door were an added bonus (we did not notice any noise overnight). It was well equipped and very comfortable. It is an ideal location for the area, but its a good walk down into Fowey (which we didn't mind). But there is a shuttle bus from the main car parks. Recommended!

We really enjoyed our stay in the pool house. Close to some lovely walks (to secluded beaches!) And a 10 min walk to the village. Accommodation was clean, spacious, very quite and private. The gardens are beautifully kept and the indoor pool was a great bonus.

Lovely location easy to find. We enjoyed our stay in this property set in beautiful gardens. The apartment has everything you need to enjoy the joys of Cornwall. Very quiet setting. No noise or disturbance from the next door pool, which was very nice and clean. A very nice apartment and location. We hope to return soon.

We arrived as the cleaners arrived so walked for 20 mins into Fowey for a look round and beer and got the minibus back ( £1.50 each to nearby roundabout, £4.50-5.00 taxi to door). It consists of a lounge /diner/kichen which is easy big enough for 2 and 1 double bed with loo and shower, there is a small patio area outside with table chairs and a parasol, as in pic, so all perfectly good. Apartment is attached to the pool so very close and is big enough to have a good swim

We found the property without any problems & were very impressed with the accommodation. It was bright, clean & nicely furnished with French doors out into the garden. We didn't use the pool or sauna but they seemed clean & modern. It was very interesting reading the history of Carnethic House which looks very beautiful. We discovered the access to the lane at the back of the house through the gate at the bottom of the garden & enjoyed a very pleasant circular walk - despite the weather. There is also a track down to Readymoney cove just up the road & then on into Fowey which was enjoyable.
