The Hideaway is a stylish contemporary apartment within the Blue Mill building, tucked away in a lovely quiet area of Fowey, just over a 5 minutes walk from the centre of the town. The apartment is newly refurbished and appointed to an excellent quality throughout.
Its open plan living space has a bright, open feel thanks to wall to ceiling windows (which also boast a view out to the river!). The kitchen is superbly fitted with everything you'd need to relax comfortably in a home from home, or to wine, dine and entertain if the mood takes you. The dining area comfortably seats 4.
The master bedroom (double bed) is a fantastic tranquil space to relax and unwind, and the second bedroom (small double bed) is a sweet and cosy retreat.
The bathroom is a stylish and fun space allowing you to relax in the hideaway bath or snap a perfect selfie in the large mirror!
The apartment offers quiet sanctuary on the 3rd floor of Blue Mill, and is directly opposite the Caffa Mill car park, very handy in Fowey where parking is often very tricky.
Bedroom 1: Double Bedroom (5ft Double bed)
Bedroom 2: Small Double Bedroom (4ft Double bed)
The Hideaway is on the 3rd floor of Blue Mill.
The private entrance on the 3rd floor leads into a hallway, with Bedroom 2, Bathroom, and Master Bedroom opening to the left-hand side. The hallway then leads into the open plan space with kitchen, dining and lounge area. There is a balcony with table and chairs to the rear of the living area.
The Hideaway does not have allocated private parking, but is directly opposite the Caffa Mill car park which is run by Cornwall Council. Hourly, daily, weekly and rover passes can be obtained in advance on their website or you can use the Just Park ‘app’ from your mobile device .
There is also a free car park opposite squire’s field on Park Road. There are no allocated spaces and can fill up quickly during the summer weeks.
During the winter (Oct 1st – Apr 30th) there is a 2-hour short-stay car park on the town quay. There is also a short stay car park all year round at Albert Quay.
Our Handy Guide To Fowey
FOOD & DRINK
You certainly won’t go hungry while you’re on holiday in Fowey – these are our favourite places to eat out!
- Evening Meals: Fitzroys, Appletons, Fowey Harbour Hotel and King of Prussia
- Relaxed and Family Friendly Dining: Sams, The Galleon and Havaeners
- Cafés, Lunch and Light Bites: Brown Sugar, Pinky Murphy, The Lifebouy Café and The Cornish Bakery
- Tea Rooms: The Dwelling House and The Well House
- International: Pintxo, Sunny Spice and Bufalla
-Take Home Treats: Haveners Fish & Chips, Kittows Deli and Game of Cones
There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey such as Seasalt, Joules, and Mountain Warehouse. But the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique, and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
THINGS TO SEE & DO
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon! If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey too.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, a local museum, and a MAD museum – all are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary overlooking Readymoney Cove.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
There is a secret sea-pool hidden currently being renovated back to its former glory at Whitehouse Pier which is perfect for a refreshing paddle while looking out over the estuary. It can only be found at certain times, so check those tide times!
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic views, coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden have zip wires and giant air swings, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard and Via Ferrata near Penryn are perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 630 miles around the county, and The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is sometimes open on Sundays in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is very famous for its tin mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit. Further afield on the North Coast, head to Wheal Coates from the iconic Poldark-style sea mines.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
If you’re looking for somewhere just for the kids, check out Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Kidzworld, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre. This is just small selection of the many dozens of places for families to visit!
Don’t forget to follow Fowey Homes Holidays on social media for inspiration on days out. When booking your trip with us, please feel free to ask for some personal recommendations - we’d love to help you discover the real hidden gems of Cornwall and get the most of out of your time in beautiful Fowey.

"A great apartment! Clean, spacious, and all the essentials you will ever need. The light in the house is also perfect - especially on those sunny days, where each morning the whole home is flooded in sunlight. In terms of location, the apartment is a short stroll into the main town, which was nice - close enough, but also far enough to get some comparative peace."

We really enjoyed our family stay at the Blue Bill. Staying a few nights in Fowey was kind of a bucket list for us as we visit the area every year to see family. The apartment is well situated at one end of Fowey and is a short walk to the rest of the town, although to reach ready Money Cover you need to prepare for a decent walk if you have small children. The apartment has everything you need, is well appointed, comfy, cosy and welcoming. The only slight negative, not so much for us but for people that are not so familiar with the area is to make sure you know that the only parking, which is directly opposite does require payment, although between 18.00 and 09.00 there is npthing to pay and there is a handy app which allows for easy management."

Vivien via AirBnB. "The apartment was very clean and tidy, with all the necessary things for a lovely stay. The rooms were well presented and modern. It was a lovely place to stay. Communication with host was excellent, always polite and a quick response. Advice for future guests would be to access Fowey from the other end to avoid driving through town and it's very narrow roads. This also brings you closer to the property."

"We stayed at the Hideaway in March and had a very nice experience. The apartment was spotless and very well furnished to a high standard. Parking was very close and the check in and out was easy. We would definitely recommend this host."

"This 2-bedroomed flat is the most lovely little hidden treasure on the outskirts of Fowey ...! The flat is spotlessly clean and has everything you could wish for. The flat is at the top of a modern block of flats accessible by lift or stairs. The shop below the flat that is referred to in other reviews has closed, but it is only a short distance to the town centre so did not effect us in any way. The flat is simply beautiful, lots of lovely touches (coffee machine, Alexa, Netflix, beautiful linen), the flat is so quiet, we slept better than we'd done in years! There is a lovely small balcony to sit out on but the living area is spacious. The town centre is about a 5 minute walk with some of the best places to eat - The Old Quay Hotel, Sam's Restaurant ... and the Brown Sugar Cafe (just for the pancakes!). We explored Fowey, did the Hall Walk (you have to be fairly fit as very steep in places) but well worth doing for the views. Also walked to Gribbin Point and walked the Saints Way Walk. Gorgeous!!! A perfect location for a holiday in Fowey ... we will definitely be back! Thank you also for allowing us to extend our last day, very much appreciated! See you again soon we hope!"

"Our stay at 21 The Hideaway at Fowey Landing was great. The location of the flat is perfect for exploring Fowey and the South Cornish coast. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town, but also close enough via a short walk. Anyone who knows Fowey knows it's not that big anyway, so thats not an issue. There is a small farm shop on the ground floor of the building, so good for any forgotten items. Beds and bedrooms are good for what you need them for with plenty of storage. The kitchen is well equipped with a coffee machine, and the normal facilities you'd expect. We downloaded and used the JustPark App for paying for a weeks worth of parking in the bigger car park round the corner (not the car park opposite as it can get busy). Parking was about £35.00 for a week when we've just stayed in August, 2021."

Paul via AirBnB.
Lovely modern flat, extremely clean. Good location with a 10 min. walk into town. Bit of a climb coming back, but it is Cornwall. Two suggestions for this year, the parking spaces are at a premium. We paid for a week in one location but couldn’t always get parked there and dining out is unusual at the moment so restaurant capacity was limited due to staff shortages. Best to book the first couple of meals beforehand if you want to dine out."

"Great spotlessly clean and very well equipped and well appointed apartment. Good check in and very prompt communication from the host. The parking is close and convenient and the apartment sits above a super farm shop/deli which was a huge bonus. Would return to this accommodation in a heartbeat."

“The Hideaway hosted by Fowey Homes is a wonderful apartment that is bright, modern, clean and perfectly located to enjoy the beautiful town of Fowey. All fixtures and fittings in the flat are very new and the place is wonderfully decorated. The location is amazing with the walk to the Fowey quay around 5-10 mins, passing through the town's pretty streets and views. Jane and the Fowey homes team are wonderful hosts with the flat being spotless on arrival, whilst giving clear and simple instructions for check-in and check-out. They also left a great amount of local information in the flat, just in case you're not sure what to do. When staying in the beautiful town of Fowey this apartment could not be more perfect!!”

“We stayed for 1 week in this lovely stylish & exceptionally clean appartment. It has everthing you would need for a comfortable self catering stay however there are some great restaurants in Fowey pre booking is advised. The Appartment is ideally situated with a carpark opposite and a short walk to all the shops and restaurants. We used Fowey as a base to explore cornwall, there are just to many beautiful places & villages but to mention a few take the Bodinnick ferry opposite this appartment and a short car journey to Polruan or alternatively walk in to Fowey Harbour and take the foot passanger ferry over. Clovelly is a must to see, you have to pay to enter the village at present it is £8 pp but you will not be disapointed! Charlestown & Mevagissey are also not to be missed. Thank you to Fowey Homes for all of your communication and for a great stay in this appartment and hopefully one day we will return”

"We really enjoyed our visit to Fowey. Even in the off season there was still plenty to see and do in the area and lots of choice for coffee breaks, dining and relaxing. The Hideaway was well presented, wonderfully clean and comfortable. The top floor views of the river were pretty and it was nice to take the lift with tired legs at the end of the day. The best thing is it’s location as it means you don’t have to drive through Fowey centre to get to it yet it’s a nice short (and flat) walk into the centre of everything. Would stay again!"
